<<Not entirely out of the question. Bubba could open the SPR spigots, to be reimbursed by OPEC oil delivered after the election cycle (and winter) pass>>

This becomes more of a possibility with each uptick in crude....however, refiners are pretty well running at full capacity, and October is usually when they do seasonal maintenence. Voters don't use crude, they use gasoline, heating oil and NG, and NONE of these will be available in supplies significant enough to lower prices by election time, IMO. If Dubya has his MoJo working in the debates (admittely, low power MoJo, but so be it), he'll draw and quarter algore on this issue.

No, that won't work at this point because there aren't many things that can burn straight crude. The refiners don't have enough slack to pull it off in time. Makes you wonder how we got ourselves into this mess.
