Wonder why Gore is refusing to speak at the American Legion. First time since 1920 the Democrat candidate has not done that.

Editorialists across the political spectrum think it's reasonable to conclude that Bush is waffling on his earlier commitments, tampering recklessly with the bipartisan debates process, and shortchanging the American voter.

The first event Bush scheduled was an hour-long, prime-time edition of ``Meet The Press.'' Yesterday, Bush said he would show up at NBC whether or not Gore was there.
