Tony, don't forget that a large number of uniprocessor PCs are being sold and put to use as servers. I'm thinking especially about the thousands of small independent web sites out there. Those are the kind of customers who will buy a regular mid-range or high-end PC, install Linux and Apache on the system, then connect it up to the Internet.

And if business peer-to-peer networking (a la Napster) takes off like some people at Intel are imagining, there will be an even higher demand for these low-end servers. (Actually, it'll be regular business desktops that will function as the low-end servers.)

By the way, have you read this article from AnandTech:

It seems that Anand is using a combination of Intel and AMD-based servers to host his very popular Web site. That should serve as a wake-up call to all of us who still think that AMD won't make any inroads into the server arena.
