An Alcatel spokesperson also told Light Reading that "Dell'Oro's figures don't take into account
portions of the optical transport market such as submarine networking and digital
cross-connects, where Alcatel has a leading presence."

"But Clavenna cautions against drawing too many conclusions from the figures. "Alcatel is doing
better with its DWDM products," he says. It's not doing as well with Sonet. When you clump all of
the optical networking gear this way into a single number, it doesn't tell the whole story."

According to ALA annual and Q report optical business showed strong growth on Q/Q and Y/Y bases

Alcatel Removed from `Fresh Money Buy List' at Morgan
Stanley
By Clare Malcomson

London, Sept. 11 (Bloomberg Data) -- Alcatel (CGE FP) was removed from the ``fresh money
buy list'' by analyst Angela Dean at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter.
-------------
ON the other hand CSF Boston repeated BUY on ALA today.

Since Morgan Stanley Dean Witter was listed as the underwriter for the global offering for the Class O shares to reflect the performance of its Alcatel Optronics division, we may see a case when MSDW do not want to promote ALA during that period. They stayed on sideline when ALA/NN merger was announced.

Fresh money means they recomend to keep current position, but not put new money, so.... they clients can buy at lower level.
