Gary, I would be so excited about Dell'Oro figures b/c they do not tell entire story.As you know submarine optical network represent significant portion of overall market, and were not included in the report. So, some vendors which seems to show negative growth, are in fact growing quite fast in overall market. "But Clavenna cautions against drawing too many conclusions from the figures. "Alcatel is doing better with its DWDM products," he says. It's not doing as well with Sonet. When you clump all of the optical networking gear this way into a single number, it doesn't tell the whole story." An Alcatel spokesperson also told Light Reading that "Dell'Oro's figures don't take into account portions of the optical transport market such as submarine networking and digital cross-connects, where Alcatel has a leading presence." lightreading.com

Let's see now...... NT run rate 10 billion. Growth in recent quarter 34%. That would translate to 13.4 billion in Optics revenue run rate by end of this year (probably that is under-estimation) CSCO run rate 1 billion. Grows in recent qtr is 54% CSCO run rate will be at 1.54 billion by end of 2000. 10B versus 1B 13.4 Billion versus 1.54 Billion. Hmmmm......seems to me NT is taking bigger & bigger slice of the optics market. Funny how you can play with the numbers to slant the story the way you want to portray it eh Gary?
