15:34 ET Optical Rumors : A lot of strange action in the optical sector is coinciding with many rumors, though it's not clear if the rumors are causing the price action or the price action is causing the rumors. For what it's worth, some of the dubious talk making the rounds: Nortel (NT -2 7/16) buying Juniper (JNPR +4 3/4), Williams (WCG -11/16) displeased with Sycamore (SCMR -6 3/4) gear, and Cisco (CSCO +2 1/16) taking market share from Redback (RBAK -7 15/16).

Cabletron Sys (CS) 35 7/8 +7/8: Josephthal & Co upgrades to BUY from HOLD rating and price target of $74. Firm notes that although investors have taken an interest the stock as shares have appreciated 47% since the beginning of August, the S1 which will be filed for Riverstone Networks in the next few weeks is expected to act as a catalyst to refocus investors on CS as a whole.
