Kerry: Thanks for taking the time to respond. They're good tips. In early '98 I had a stop loss on a good stock (aapl) when I owned it in the high twenties. I lost it. I remember the chart that day. There was a downward spike to my price -- only once that day. I thought I was out of range. I was so angry about it that I haven't used one since.

I do realize it is an emotional reaction, which may be keeping me from a more orderly method. Stop losses would have helped from time to time on other stocks I own, but I am not unhappy with them yet. I do keep a careful eye on them, though.
