Ed, Another interesting comment from Netscape business.

dailynews.netscape.com

This only deals with the temporary shock of such rapid increases. The true causes, and not just the symptoms, of the problem will have to be addressed at some time in the not too distant future.

I think that the Saudi minister's suggestion that Europe's governments cut the taxes on gasoline and diesel, misses the mark. That would only stimulate higher demand over the next few years and require further increases in oil to be pumped from OPEC.
Surely it would be smarter to raise gasoline taxes in the USA and drop taxes on home heating oil, at least for this winter.

This stuff from OPEC is going back to the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dyke. He is a true hero and doing great but eventually he himself will need to go to the bathroom.
This problem requires a more lasting solution that a 'finger in the dyke.'
