Ian,

Re: Faubert and Bagley...yep, I stand corrected...Faubert did say that he only saw AMAT and Ebara as competition.

So who is right? Faubert or Bagley? Hmm....my bet is on the horse that does CMP and CMP only. My theory, however simplistic, is that Faubert and SFAM have no choice but to concentrate on CMP, as this is their lifeblood....their only way to pay the rent. If Faubert doesn't know his CMP customers (Intel included) or what marketshare they will have in CMP, then SFAM is in a whole lot deeper dung than this recent press release...this is something I personally just don't believe. From all I have heard and read, Faubert is quite astute, and not one prone to rah rah or overstatement. In contrast, Bagley and LRCX have their etch business among other things to keep an eye on...and these spaces are more mature than CMP where marketshare is more defined. So taking this approach to the next stage....drumroll please....I guess I have to go with Faubert here. Of course, that is where my money is, so I guess that makes me either good at self delusion, or one insightful blood hound. I must confess that to date I have not heard much to support Bagley's assertion as well. Having said all this, I have been contemplating starting a position in LRCX based on general fundamentals, not because of their CMP business (or lack thereof).

Re: More disappointments ahead. I respectfully disagree. I listen to call once by myself, and then to reassure my jet lagged self, on a conference call with a fellow investor. I guess time will tell, but two people can see a cup with water differently - as well as hear things and interpret also disimilarly. Momentum, the tool, is out there. SFAM is not using its cash to buying back shares here in part to insure that Momentum R&D tools are getting to their customers and potential customers. This is why SFAM apparently gained two customers at the expense of their competition.

Well, enough rambling for one evening. Hope you do well with LRCX based on their non-CMP business.....perhaps I might join you in that regard shortly.

Just one man's spin....SemiBull
