It was a couple years ago. Think it was in LA, but not sure. This guy went into a National Guard Armory and stole a tank. Was running through residential neighborhoods mowing down everything in sight - you should see what a 60 ton tank does to a car. -g-

There was an army of cops following him, but not much they could do since spike strips don't work so hotski on a steel tracked vehicle. -g- He then went on a freeway and decided to cross over into oncoming traffic, but there was a concrete barrier 3 or 4 foot high. He approached it at a glancing angle and got one track over the barrier then hung up off the ground. Guess he forgot to lock the main hatch and the cops climbed up, opened and shot him dead. For making them look like fools? There was no ordnance in the tank, so they could have just waited the guy out. They were going to have to bring in some equipment to get the thing unstuck - so knock the tracks off and haul him away is what I would have done. Or drop in gas. There were a lot of things to do rather than execute him.
