appro,

I don't use Symantec products so I really don't have an opinion.

I've read a lot of reviews on the various utility products and most of them seem to indicate that Norton's are the most comprehensive. I use OnTrack's Fixit 2000. It works for me. But there have been times that it crashes or freezes right in the middle of doing it's thing. So it's not without quirks.

Computers with windows installed are such temperamental animals, and there are so many variables involved, that my guess is that it's a matter of what you've got on the machine...how it was loaded and how the stars are aligned on a particular day :)
