While CSCO will not go out of business, the trend
has been for a long time that more of the
networking value added is integrated on silicon chips,
i.e. networking gear is getting commoditized.
CSCO has been fighting this trend by becoming
a complete system integrator.

Does anyone really believe Mr. Gilder ever said Cisco is going out of business? That suggestion is the true bit of misdirection here, and I wonder why, I wonder why.
