I can assure you there are at least four networks
with live, CUG trial systems up and running on
WCDMA in Western Europe, with large contracts in place to roll out similar systems already being placed with the big vendors.

Your over-optimism wrt cdma2000 does not take into account that most of the definition for IMT2000/UMTS was carried out by GSM-based vendors and operators who want to upgrade THEIR networks in a cost-effective way. They couldn't give two hoots about legacy cdmaOne systems, and those firms make up the huge bulk of the future market for 3G (and QCOM) products.
