I like Bass, but more for the stable position of a company that is big within its market, but the market is limited. This is the fate of a shiny pebble who picks a market that just isn't ever going to grow that much, no matter how keen their technology seems. This has a very different feel to me than a company whose technology has wide potential applicability, but who is at the stage of knocking down bowling pins one at a time. One may not always be able to tell the difference at a particular instant in time, but over time the difference is profound.
