Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- Sony Corp.'s (SNE) Sony Broadcast & Professional Europe unit and Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI) entered a joint cooperative agreement to design a film-to-digital transfer system.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

In a press release Friday, Silicon Graphics, a Mountain View, Calif., graphic technology company, said the system is targeted to the post-production industry.

The system allows real-time transfer and monitoring, optical color grading and simultaneous outputs to RGB data, HDTV and SDTV in one film pass.

In a separate release, Silicon Graphics said Sveriges Television purchased seven additional SGI Media Servers for production and broadcast systems in the Swedish public service company's news production facility.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

The Swedish company previously purchased 15 of the Silicon Graphics systems for the production site.
