Well, I think your cynicism is justified. Particularly as the chip is claimed to be tri-mode with EDGE. We'll see.

Infineon
----------

Am I to understand that Infineon, whose other cellular baseband products are exclusively GSM, has:

1) Mastered CDMA algorithms (that have baffled titans) and other QCOM IP essential to 3G.

2) Perfected EDGE complications including, but not limited to, power consumption, heat and radiation - well ahead of ERICY's publicized achievements.

3) Perfected chipset architecture for the above - plus GSM to boot.

All without press or fanfare - modestly preferring only a product sheet buried deep in the bowels of its web site.

I think we are looking at Infineon's wet dream - with a production date well into the unknown.
