OG,

re: "CSCO has almost ZERO systems integrators"

That's absolutely true. And this may only be a nit, but I've taken the same view as Bernard after witnessing what's been taking place in account after account. Note that BL didn't say that Cisco "uses" integrators, rather, he stated that...

"CSCO has been fighting this trend by becoming a complete system integrator."

Big difference, and one which I'm sure you'll agree with, once it's couched and clarified in those bolded terms. Hey, at the moment they are on top of the hill, and they've got a candidate solution for just about every conceivable point solution in the enterprise. And they use a single-vendor-completely-integrated-solution-approach, often citing the lack of QoS guarantees if the enterprise elects not to follow suit, in order to make their point. And it's a valid point, often.

Because the "standards" that are supposed to make everyone interoperable are only the least common deonominators in the game, which allow everyone to speak with each other at the lowest, undifferentiated level. With all of the "good stuff" in the upper services department still being designed and deployed in proprietary terms.

Hi Gary:

I think you are overestimating the ability of software to
put enough differentiation to justify the high
pricetag for CSCO's gear. This is not just a Gilder
point of view:

eetimes.com

Clearly, BRCM, CNXT, INTC, PMCS, VTSS and others
will do whatever it takes to grab as much of the value
added embedded in networking hardware. The only
option for CSCO is to become a solutions provider
rather than a just an equipment vendor.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
