JC, That's a zdnet author that is just earnings his pay by writing an interesting article. It's not reality, it's the media. You really should know by now that you can't believe most of what you read in the media. It's for entertainment value.

The PC is not only here to stay, but it's growth will continue, IMO. Yes, handheld devices and interactive TV are growing rapidly and will play a large roll in the future of computing. But, they are an addition to today's market, they are not a substitution.

MSFT's business will continue to grow steadily. They are branching out to other areas in order to assist with their growth. They are trying to increase the rate of sales growth. They aren't trying to prevent sales from actually decreasing. Maybe they'll have a quarter here and there that has decreased sales, but I'll bet you they won't have a single year in the next 10 years with an actual decrease in annual revenue. The only way that would happen is if the entire economy took a dive and then you'll need to be concerned with your SUNW as well as MSFT.

The PC is not going away. Do people actually think that I'm going to sit at my desk at work and do my work on a PALM PC? Do people really think that I'm going to sit at home and use an internet only device when for a few bucks more I can have a PC that does everything? If they do, they need to think again.

Dave

JC Jaros:

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to give us a heads-up on an event that may be "supremely ironic and in fact, ominous" for MS shareholders -- and would we be far off base in assuming that such shareholders group excludes yourself so that you do not have to deal first-hand with the ironic and ominous?
