We met with a guy who happens to be an engineer from Spinco today--on a project that is totally unrelated to QCOM--but sooner or later our conversation turned to thoughts of CDMA...

Of course I am not a techno-weenie, but he basically confirmed all that has been discussed here: the Spinco strategy, royalties streaming from WCDMA vs CDMA2000 depending on which gets established, the importance of last week's announcement from China Unicom, and that he saw India as coming after China. Spirits were high last week when the stock got that little burst of energy--apparently there's lots of little tickers running along the bottom of monitors around the office down there...

General wisdom, he thought, was that QCOMs price would run up about 10 or 20 bucks between now and the time the IPO happens (so now is the time to load up for fall!)...

Oh, and they had a contest at the office for the permanent Spinco name--but no, the winner has not yet been announced...
