Following the gov't regulators reviewing of the
Deutsch Tele play to buyout VoiceStream(VSTR) which is being scrutinized this week back in DC .... a huge deal valued around $48bil (Deutsch telecom is 58% owned by the German government)

Interesting stuff happening here involving the push for privatization and free trade , and access to foreign markets, and the determination of reciprocity on the Teleco/Net world stages...

Here's where you really find much of the meat happening on the world trade front opening up ---->The Giant Telecom Wars ...
Brings into play everyone from Senate , Congress , FCC to the FBI and Trade commissions , with many multi~Billions in the balance and the future opening up of foreign and domestic markets to issues of Nat'l security, they're looking hard at this one, this week...

Another deal recently for $5bil , was the buy-out for Verio
one of the world's largest operators of Web sites for businesses and provider of comprehensive Internet services , by NTT Communications, a unit of Japan's former state monopoly Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp ....

Both these deals had attract much scrutiny from Washington due to worries it could present a foreign espionage risk by giving state-controlled NTT access to U.S. wiretapping activities....or hindering records or to have access to monitor potential criminal activities over networks here.

Of course works both ways ,
but these deals raise
"yellow flags" as Foreign ownership is one thing. Foreign government ownership is another. Under present US laws any carrier more than 25 percent owned by a foreign government can be blocked from acquiring U.S. phone companies. Of course they'll probably work it out....access to their markets is also at stake.

**Interesting stuff... trading VSTR made me a ton long and short
( while Michael D Cummings sits whining here all day, and Ish and Kavitchnik sit wishing California will fall into the ocean...god you would think this was
the 1960's all over again, LOL!)

....Did very nicely this year on the huge B2B companies CMRC ITWO ARBA etc...that will satisfy the needs of giant industries thru procurement of online exchanges.

Some real nice revenue going to pass thru the internet very soon , but they still have only estimates...and the gov't will want in as soon as they do ...

I will be here when they
swear in your --->DUBYA
in November though ...
and with either
candidate , i will
be simply
thrilled.

Now for Oprah!

;-)
