China Unicom Ltd. (0762), which holds the core operations of China’s No. 2 phone company, and Hutchison Global Crossing signed a bilateral agreement to use their existing external telecommunications infrastructure to interconnect their fixed telecoms networks for international services, the South China Morning Post reported. Construction for interconnecting the external telecoms facilities is expected to be complete this year or early next year. The connected networks will enhance the telecoms service quality between Hong Kong and mainland China.
Hutchison Global Crossing is a 50/50 joint venture between dominant conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. (0013) and Global Crossing Ltd.
