Joel... One byproduct of these high energy prices will be a stepped up development of alternative fuel sources. It is happening fairly quietly and quickly without much fanfare. You can go out and buy a Honda Insight now, a gas/electric car that gets huge mileage. Other car makers will have them on the market next year I believe. Fuel cells and electric technologies are rapidly improving. Necessity is the mother of invention. Check these out...http://www.esarati.com/products.htm
