John,

In verbal comments that didn't seem to get very far (probably because they appeared to contradict his ratings and price targets), on Friday, ML's Fortuna ranked CPQ first for price performance through the end of the year. DELL was ranked second to last even though it was his highest-rated stock and has the biggest implied upside based on his price target. Also ahead of Dell were GTW and TECD. I believe his CPQ price target is $34, which doesn't support his comment, but then again, his research hardly ever makes sense to me. Nevertheless, it would appear to me that he is embracing his lower-rated stocks like CPQ and TECD and backing away from DELL.

Compaq Sees Sales in Asia Pacific Growing 30 Percent in 2001
By Cindy Lim

Singapore, Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Compaq Computer Corp., the
world's biggest maker of personal computers, said it expects
Asia Pacific sales to grow by 30 percent next year as the
market rebounds, the Business Times reported, citing Michael
Capellas, Compaq's chief executive, and Paul Chan, the
company's Asia Pacific chief.

Compaq's 1999 sales in the Asia Pacific region -- excluding
Japan and Greater China, but including Australia and New
Zealand -- were more than $2 billion. Second-quarter sales this
year in the same region grew 12 percent on year and 17 percent
on quarter.

``Most of our Asia Pacific regional teams have set stretch goals
for themselves to double their business over the next two to
three years,'' said Chan.

Asia accounted for about 15 percent of Compaq's $38.5 billion
revenue last year. Compaq expects 12 percent to 15 percent
revenue growth this year
