Historical note: before Michael Coad was employed by Sprint PCS. he was employed by Qualcomm. In September 1995, at PCS95 in Orlando. in the Qualcomm booth, Michael showed me an early prototype of Qualcomm's handset intended for the US market. The prototype was considerably less bulky than the models that made it to market. I believe he joined Sprint in 1996 as Manager of Subscriber Equipment.

That's particularly impressive because Sprint has just 7.4 million mobile subscribers, compared with 25 million for Verizon.

We know that all of sprint PCS' customers are digital. How many of the 25 million Verizon customers are?

The wireless web subscriber success being enjoyed by sprint is probably one of many reasons Verizon is pushing people off its analog system and into digital. (Note - Verizon ran another full page color ad in today's SF Chronicle.)
