If telcos were to go down 2-5 points (5-10%) for the entire week I would be forced to sell at least one stock, maybe at a loss or a wash. I could lose $15,000 or more, basically giving back all the profits I made in August and maybe more. But you see I would only sell what I really have to and would hold the rest. Beyond this coming week I am confident that valuations will correct on the stocks I own which I believe are all undervalued by 25-100%. Therefore provided there is a recovery in telcos this quarter I would end up ahead even if I had to suffer through a bad week or so holding.

As for gambling, aren't we all? One wrong call, one wrong stock and any one of us could lose a lot of money. What if for instance CIEN (just picking a name of a high-flier) warned of poor earnings and some SEC scandal. From $200 it could be cut in half or more right away. And would still be up 1000% for the last 3 years. ORCL is another I believe is far riskier than my stocks. They are priced for perfection and almost no competition. These stocks which have won recent popularity contests have been driven way-way up. Maybe they deserve to be this high but if you buy quality stocks already down 70% the risk is a lot less. The worst case scenario has almost been priced-in already.

That's my theory anyway. But you're right, if I miss picking the bottom by 20% or so and don't have the cash to double up I could be hurting for awhile. Good to keep this perspective. I was betting on a rebound Friday afternoon as Rande predicted. It didn't happen. I may be in for one more day or so of waiting. But since SBC, VZ, UIS and even IFMX went up Friday into the selling I am hopeful I've made the right gamble.

Hey you know why I never go to Vegas anymore? Who needs it? This is the biggest casino in the world and the odds
are a lot better. Who needs card games, huh? ggg

Mr.Active, I'm not sure where you normally post, but here at HOME we treat one another with respect at all times. Taking pot shots at fellow investors is disruptive to this thread.

Furthermore, in case you are unaware. . .most every serious trader uses margin in one way or another on a regular basis. We are traders who also invest. And we are each responsible for our own trades.

American Spirit has spent many hundreds of hours contributing to our community. If you wish to participate here, I would appreciate contributions that everyone can use.
