Imo, if a thread isn't united sufficiently to repel attacks and strong enough to survive them, there is little reason
to safeguard it.

i disagree, i believe the community has stated openly that they do not want to continuely be on the offence with individuals over upholding the decorum of the porch. this is not due to the lack of the porch being strong or united, but more a cry for some semblance of order and peace on the thread.

personally, in regards to the thread header, i don't even keep the thing up and if you don't post openly that it has been changed i would never know what it said. it isn't about the header so much as the direction this thread is taking.

i think this whole situation is about more than bonnie or the header. maybe i'm wrong. i never thought that i would say that i was for a moderated thread, as a matter of fact i am still not 100% sure, but i feel like this is what the porch wants and if so i would certainly like to see it done in a more democratic way than having one person make the decision who stays and who goes. i believe that moderating can only work if there is community involvement and i'm not talking about continually engaging the offender or baiting them either. this is both disruptive and unnecessary. i've made the person decision to stay on the porch (or with the porchers) whether it is moderated or not. i usually just ignore the posters with agendas that aren't constructive or are bent to personal flaming. i see no need to encourage this behavior or even acknowlege it so i don't engage them in conversation when i know there is no constructive reason to do so. i believe that the ensueing agruing and posturing after some of bonnie's remarks were just as destructive and damaging as her posts. this is what bothers me the most. like many of the posters and lurkers here i don't want to waste my time pouring over posts about what he said/she said. there has to be a way for the thread to continue in a more meaningful way than this. i would just like to see some constructive ideas on how to eliminate a lot of the problems that have faced the thread here recently. i have been a founder at many other threads and have no problem at all pulling the pull on someone if that is what the community wants. for me cursing, off-topic subjects, etc. are no problem. i draw the line at personal attacks however. in real life these kinds of attacks can be handled in the courts and the offenders go to jail. here with the anonymity you can't quite sue someone for slander or character assination but as a community we should have the right to enforce this when needed, to remove the offenders means of attacking. at least these are my thoughts on the subject. she
