I can't believe that this is anything other than an "urban legend," lots of which abound.

Does anybody believe that aircraft aren't bombarded at all levels of flight, particularly during critical low level approach and departure, by multitudinous waves all across the spectrums, being generated by tv, radio, ham, cellular, media, satellite, ac, dc, mixmaster, and every other wave known to mankind, in huge quantities that make a laptop look like a penlight-powered flashlight (oh, I forgot to include that).

Give us a break, everybody, there's so much radio stuff everywhere we go that if it was visible, you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.

Maurice, <Airlines are going to have to dust off this link and give passengers as much leeway as possible in using gadgets. Globalstar must be an easy one to approve.>>

Unfortunatly, the airlines have one thing in mind!! MONEY!!

As witnessed from the articles regarding the Connexion and "News Corp. Ventures i.e. IFN".. The airlines consider the passengers within their planes as their exclusive property! These airlines are not going to let "their customers" make phone calls, check e-mail, get stock quotes, or surf the net without getting their share of the financial proceeds.. $$$.. The airlines can just stand behind the FAA orders, and proclaim.. "It's for your own safety!!" Sorry, pick up the in phone in the seat back in front of you if you want to make a call.. $$

Everyone is greedy.. The airlines, the G* service providers.. etc,, Even myself.. And if the airlines are going to buy all the associated equipment to provide these services.. Then you will be waiting a long time for a large quantity of planes to be outfitted and the associated G* MOU's to roll in.. (IMO).. First they will outfit a couple of their planes which run the long haul domestic segments.. At least 6 or 9 months of beta testing the "new service".. After all, It took American over a year to yank a couple rows of seats out of their planes.. Let alone install a new "inflight entertainment system" on their fleet.. No, they will determine if it is a money making proposition (makes sense) before they begin any kind of "wholesale" retrofit..

Maurice, at least we can agree on one thing.. A LEO is a terrible thing to waste on data!! After all.. Phased Array designs have come a long way.. Just look at the Ericsson ACeS phone!! GSO/GEO's rule for Data!!
