RIMM 957 Wireless Handheld:

Research In Motion RIM 957 Wireless Handheld

$499

Just when it seemed that Palm would take the wireless crown, Canadian developer Research in Motion introduced the RIM 957. Unlike RIM's smaller BlackBerry wireless data pagers, the 957 is shaped like a palm-sized PC and weighs 5.3 ounces. Instead of a touchscreen, the 957 uses a small keyboard and a thumb-operated wheel for data entry and navigation. The backlit screen displays either 16 or 20 lines.

With 5MB of flash memory, the 957 runs typical connected organizer applications and synchronizes with PCs via a cradle and Puma Technology's Intellisync software. In addition, the 957 uses the same wireless e-mail solution as the BlackBerry and browses the Web with a WAP browser from Neomar. The real advantage is that, unlike the Palm VII, the 957 has a wireless modem that is always on to receive e-mail and instant messages. The device sells for $499; unlimited service costs $40 per month.
