With respect to picking a road to travel in life, so much depends on whether the traveller is flexible enough to be able to reinvent himself if he finds he has made a wrong turn. Some people can't turn around and go back, they feel they have to keep on with what they started with.

Boy, I can't imagine someone being happy as an engineer if that's not what he wants to do in life. I've lived for 20 years with someone who has regretted every minute that he listened to his dad and became an engineer. You have my permission to tell him (Ammo's friend) that. But you should also tell him how hard it is to make a life in theater.

If I could do it all over again, I wish I had stuck with anthropology or linguistics or history, and tried to become a college professor. But I am happy enough where I am that I don't really regret the road I took. Sometimes I just think the grass on the other side of the fence looks greener, that's all.

Rambi,

Yikes, how did our babies get so old so fast? College??? Well, I know we've both been through the kids and college stuff once before. But this time is not as easy; John is like Ammo in that he is NOT going to follow a direct path. He's just his own person; and very interesting. In AP classes, but he'd much rather not be in high school. Yep, SAT prep on Saturday mornings. At least he can drive himself.

As for letting kids be themselves--my daughter has a "serious" boyfriend. Shaved head, earring, and Egyptian. I'm cool with it.

I'm seriously into cooking these days; that's why I wanted to know about CobaltBlue's recipe quest. The stock market is far less rewarding.
