not silly at all.

try going to start\settings\control panel\sounds
the events that have speaker icons in front of them currently are assigned a sound on your system.

look for an event (with a speaker) that you think may be the culprit. it may say mouse click.

highlight that event. then, in the 'name' window, click the down arrow and select 'none'. 'apply' and ok your way out.

see if that does it.

Go to start\settings\control panel\sounds\Windows Explorer\Start Navigation\select none.Hope this works for you.
