...Telson isn't exactly a household name in the U.S...
Otherwise what benefit is there to Nokia?

Late last year, when we were speculating about who would buy the handset division and I was championing NOK, someone sent me a PM that said that NOK would not buy the division and gave the following reason.

NOK used a two-chip design in their CDMA phones while QCOM's design was one-chip. So buying the handset division would mean NOK having to run two different types of designs or giving up one or the other. I do not know the technical details, but I do remember this.

So, if that information was correct, and NOK is still using a two chip design, they could not use QCOM's 1x in their phones. Unless they could come up with a two-chip 1X design, they would have to go to a manufacturer who was set up to use QCOM's one-chip design.

Again, I may be basing the above on incorrect info, or on an incorrect understanding of the info I was given. But it explain why they had to go with a Telson for their 1X phones.

It appears Nokia has been added to the list of sponsors for the upcoming 2000 CDMA Americas Congress in San Diego!

Can anyone comfirm whether or not Nokia has been on the Billboard in the past? I don't recall ever seeing there name as a sponsor until now.
