How about making a fist?

Not a tool and not discontinuous with humans, so it is hard for me to see it as a candidate. Even squirrels and kangaroos can make reasonable fists ... doesn't even require opposable thumbs ... not to mention not being particularly effective in comparison with a flaked tool with cutting edge. One would be better off championing the club, which most likely preceded the flaked tool, but then probably is also not human proprietary ... and somehow it seems like we should limit the earliest DI contest to humans unless we want to get into very murky waters!
