Re: The Boswell Report

Tony, I'm skeptical about that report. I could see Intel increasing 67% over last month, since they had a quarter in which they had basically been chased out of the retail market - and no one expected that to go on forever.

But more than doubling last year's sales? Intel did OK in retail last year (remember that AMD was motherboard constrained at that time). Given the limited year on year increases in memory and hard disk production, they'd be hard pressed to achieve that kind of an increase - unless there has been a concurrent collapse in corporate sales, and I think that those have been pretty good, as well.

Do you have a link to the full text of the report? Do those numbers represent some obscure subset of the total?

Dan

Tony - RE: "So much for any false hopes that is AMD supposedly gaining market share. And that's retail they're talking about there."

This is happening because the K6-2 hit a MHz ceiling a few months ago and Duron STILL isn't on shelves yet. The only thing AMD has in retail now is high-end Athlons and K6-2 notebooks, which are also about to die away. I think that once Duron hits the shelves AMD's share will go back up. But that might not happen until early next year...

What I find interesting about this report is that even though AMD's retail marketshare is going down pretty fast, AMD will still have a great Q3 and produce record revenue and profits. ;)
