Personally, I have found the Canon S20 to be a great alternative to film. (it also supports my SNDK holdings) The initial purchase costs might be a little higher but you completely eliminate the cost of developing and printing.

The S20 is a point and shoot type camera that can be stuck in jacket pocket.

You can also catalog pictures in your computer and do like Lindy does and share them over the web with your relatives as soon as you get them. Moms can't get enough pictures of Grandbabies so this will be a major league attaboy for your mother in law.

Yes time IS of the essence and you and greg and others have saved me valuable time. Thank You.
It's the Pentax and the HPS20.
I had a feeling the point and shoots today are almost as good as the big body cameras but not being a camera buff I wanted to hear it from somebody else.
If I decide to do landscape shots I'll think about a big body camera but I have a feeling any time left for photos won't be for tress and bushes.
