Compaq AlphaServer GS320 With Tru64
UNIX Records Breakthrough Oracle(R)
Single-System TPC-C Results

AlphaServer GS320 System Continues Oracle Performance Leadership

HOUSTON, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on its industry leading performance with Oracle
benchmarks, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news) today announced its AlphaServer
GS320 system running Compaq Tru64 UNIX Version 5.1 has achieved the best Oracle-based
single-system Transaction Processing Council Benchmark C (``TPC-C'') result using the Oracle8i
database. The combination of the AlphaServer GS320 and Tru64 UNIX delivered 144,331 transactions
per minute-C (tpm-C), with price/performance at $57.25/tpmC.

This is the best single-system performance ever achieved on an Oracle8i database, enabling customers
to meet the speed, reliability and availability requirements for the most demanding e-business
environments. The latest benchmark for the new AlphaServer GS320 systems reaffirms Compaq's
position as a leading Oracle server. The results are higher than those for the 64-CPU Sun E10000 and
the IBM RS/6000 S80 Oracle TPC-C benchmarks(i).

``The latest TPC-C numbers build on the continued success of the AlphaServer GS systems and Tru64
UNIX and validate our commitment to provide lasting value to our customers,'' said Don Harbert, Vice
President and General Manager of Compaq's High Performance Server Business Unit. ``Through
advances in Alpha technology and our long-term partnership with Oracle, we have created a platform
with built-in growth to handle the most demanding transaction workloads and e-commerce applications.''

``The ongoing partnership between Compaq and Oracle has led to the significant results announced
today,'' said Juan Jones, vice president, System Platforms Division, Oracle. ``Combining Oracle8i with
the scalable performance and availability of the new Compaq AlphaServer GS series provides our
customers with an ideal foundation for E-Business.''

The AlphaServer GS320 was equipped with 32 731 MHz Alpha 21264A CPUs, 128 GB main memory,
coupled with 18 Compaq StorageWorks ESA 12000 storage using a total of 9286 GB storage. For more
