RMBS--Chip stocks stage turnaround

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Semiconductor stocks, led by a surge in Rambus shares, staged a turnaround Monday after faltering in early trading.



The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index ($SOX: news, msgs) added 2.3 percent to stand at 1,064.23 in recent trading.

Rambus (RMBS: news, msgs) was the only stock in the Philly chip index that was on the plus side in earlier action. Its shares gained $5.56 to $81.50.

Programmable logic device maker Altera (ALTR: news, msgs) advanced $2.38 to $56.63, while its rival Lattice Semiconductor (LSCC: news, msgs) grew by $1.81 to $72.50.

Texas Instruments (TXN: news, msgs) shares, though, shed 25 cents to $58.38 after the chipmaker said it would add 200 engineers to its roster as part of a two-year wireless research and development push.
