U.S. FTC approves Covisint formation

WASHINGTON, Sept 11 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Trade
Commission Monday approved formation of Covisint, a
business-to-business venture of large auto makers, but said it
would keep close watch on the new project.

After voting 4-0, the FTC said the government ``cannot say that
implementation of the Covisint venture will not cause competitive
concerns'' and that it ``reserved the right to take such further action
as the public interest may require.''

Covisint is a joint venture of General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM -
news), Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F - news), DaimlerChrysler AG (NYSE:DCX - news)
Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. Ltd , along with two information technology firms,
Commerce One Inc. (NasdaqNM:CMRC - news), and Oracle Corp. (NasdaqNM:ORCL -
news).
