Either they don't want to offer AMD systems at the performance level in the US any more (currently they don't sell any Athlon systems) ore they don't want to offer AMD systems at all. I suspect Intel has to do something with this decision... Let's see if IBM introduces Duron systems. Andreas

Re: I wonder what the problem is? Weak demand or is IBM concerned with the Athlon IBM had such a marvelous experience with the 1.13GHZ P3 that they can't now imagine dealing with any other vendor. IBM has been working hard to reduce its market share, and the all Intel strategy looks like a sure bet to assure that they achieve that goal. I saw a new vendor's systems at Best Buy today - Everex 1GHZ Athlons. There are now 1GHZ Thunderbird machines from Compaq, HP, and Everex for sale at Best Buy. A visit to Everex's home page revealed that they are now the 9th largest retail vendor of PCs in the US - and some of that new market share is coming for "Intel only" IBM. Any chip slower than 1GHZ is going to sell for less than $100 by the end of the year. Still haven't ever seen anything faster than 933 from Intel in any store in the Chicago suburban area - and at 933 there is only the one model from HP. Dan
