Poetry: I memorized Invictus for a teacher who liked poem memorization in the sixth grade. I never forgot it. Here's a part of my favorite: The Highwayman...Alfred Noyes The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees, The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas, The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor, And the highwayman came riding- riding-riding The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door. I love the imagery and the sound when it is read aloud is eerie and magnetic. Of course the entire poem is much longer. Now here's one my grandchildren and I wrote, in a lighter vein. Chocolate Chocolate, chocolate it's so delicious Chocolate, chocolate it may not be nutritious We like it dark and we like it milk We like it chunky and it we like smooth as silk. Chocolate, chocolate it's so delicious Chocolate, chocolate it may not be nutritious We like chocolate cookies, we like chocolate cake.. Isn't it about time for you to bake? Cold chocolate milk but hot chocolate's fun When you wander in from your last ski run. Chocolate ice cream is a reason to cheer. So bring on some chocolate now right here! Freeus
