The synthetics tend to drain down more and leave less of a coating for the first startup of the day. That's where the wear happens. Never heard anything against Slick 50 and as an aside, I use it to oil my fishing reels. When the vet gives a dog or horse a shot I ask for the needle, then I fill it with Slick 50. From what I hear all the pro fishermen do the same.

Yep, they wear in, like sanding two pieces of wood. You need some abrasion for the first few miles. Race cars run a quart of Ford trannie fluid in the oil during the practice laps for the abrasion. Ford's trannie fliud has an abrasive, GM's doesn't. Now if you'd pay an extra $50,000 or more for a balanced and blue printed engine, it would be perfect off the line. Wouldn't stay that way though.
