Palm Announces 100,000th Developer:

Jonathan Leonhard of Arachnid Web Design Joins Development Community Driving Palm Economy

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sep 11, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM chart, msgs) today announced Jonathan Leonhard of Arachnid Web Design as its 100,000th registered developer. This announcement officially welcomes Mr. Leonhard, based in Malvern, Pa., to Palm's developer community, which has doubled in size in less than six months. Mr. Leonhard is integrating Palm handheld computers into a corporate, fleet application, one of several growing development categories within the Palm Economy. The Palm Economy is a global community of industry-leading licensees, world-class OEM customers, and over 100,000 innovative developers and solution providers that have registered to support the Palm operating system and platform.

Palm's registered development community grew by 625 percent in the past year, with over 42 percent of total developers hailing from non-U.S. markets. Palm OS developers worldwide distribute software and hardware solutions addressing a wide array of needs for users of handhelds from Palm, its licensees and OEM partners. Software solutions include commercial and shareware titles, vertical market applications and corporate enterprise products. Hardware snap-ons and physical expansion technologies also comprise a strong proportion of platform development.

"This celebration comes at a time where our developer base has doubled within six months, and is five times as large as a year ago" said Gabriel Acosta-Lopez, senior director of alliance and partner services for Palm, Inc. "Besides our growth in Web content and development tools, we're seeing significant expansion in corporate, in-house development and other enterprise initiatives."

To celebrate the registration of its 100,000th developer, Palm is awarding Jonathan Leonhard a suite of prizes designed to assist his entry into Palm's developer community. The prize package includes an all-expense paid trip for Mr. Leonhard to attend PalmSource(TM) 2000, Palm's annual developer conference to be held in Santa Clara, Calif. Dec. 11-15. It also includes his choice of a free Palm Powered(TM) handheld device from Palm or one of the Palm OS(R) software licensees, as well as a full development environment, including a programming book. He will receive a commemorative plaque, free membership to the Software Development Forum, free membership to DevelopersNation.net business services, and $500 credit towards HotDispatch peer-to-peer development services, each announced today as part of the Palm Developer Services Network launch.
