"It's really a huge Intel bet that Compaq is making," Young said. "Getting completely behind Intel on the Celeron product and the Pentium III, rather than AMD, seems to have paid off big-time for Compaq."

Andreas, yes, you could call this sloppy writing. He could have said:

"It's really a huge Intel bet that Compaq is making," Young said. "Getting completely behind Intel on the Celeron product and the Pentium III, rather than emphasizing AMD's Athlon and Duron, seems to have paid off big-time for Compaq."

There are five different product lines available, two are AMD only, two are Intel only, one is mixed AMD and Intel. Intel systems go up to 1.0 GHz, AMD up to 1.1 GHz. Looks like a 50:50 distribution for me.

Equal website distribution does not necessarily make for equal sales. Put another way, more disty for one vendor would mean more sales for them. Go to Gateway.com. Most of the clicks there lead you to Intel, and I thought they were going to stress AMD more.

Just noticed that Compaq's "closeout section" is exclusively for AMD notebooks. Now, their "new" notebook section is 6/7 ths Intel.

AMD falling behind with 2 of their supposed supporting OEMs. I guess the articles about Intel gaining market share must be true.

AMD just don't get no respect, I guess (Rodney Dangerfield).
