all of the new gadgets will be rendered useless by the electromagnetic pulse of a nuclear device.

i saw a report on german TV recently on electromagnetic field interference in everyday life. e.g. there's a big radio station somewhere in Germany, if you pass by in a modern-day car, all sorts of gauges will stop working and even the ignition may stall. no cell phone and no hearing aid works properly within a 20km radius.

this illustrates how electronic equipment could quickly become impaired in a major conflict with a seriously equipped enemy...of course, no such enemy seems to be extant at the moment. but one never knows...wars usually result from a stretch of bad economic times. not what we have recently experienced.
