I guess the most important thing to realize is that when the support fails, we will enter a prolonged period in which the market will become extremely oversold and then remain there for months, much as the extremely overbought conditions existed for months before the peak. The only way to make anything on intermediate-term trades (my favorites - it's too easy for me to get on the wrong side of the trend while day trading) will be to get short and stay short, taking advantage of downward lunges to cover, and subsequent bounces to re-establish.
