"I found no mention of DOCSIS, or DOCSIS 1.1 on a quick look at the web site."

justone- Their equipment is DOCSIS certified. I'm not quite sure why you believe they aren't? See biz.yahoo.com ...I'm puzzled as to why you felt came away thinking they weren't. Let me know if this doesn't clear it up.

"I did a quick look at their web site (with a slow modem, so I didn't look all over). At first I was skeptical- but there may be hope in the ARRIS joint venture between NT and ANTEC."

A slow modem and their website don't mix well. As a matter of fact, even a fast one proves frustrating. It's unbelievable to me how poor their website is and they don't care. As far as the JV, it's the only real product that is being rolled out today for all MSOs to deploy voice. There is ADCT's Homeworx and Tellab's Cablespan, but the comparisons between what Cornerstone is rolling out and their products is substantial. Cornerstone is the only one being rolled out in mass.

"There is also a global market, but I didn't see any global offices."

ANTC's claim to fame is cable telephony. And as a supplier to distribution plant upgrades. They don't have rights to Cornerstone outside the USA. So NT gets that business and brings ANTC to the table when they do so. It's a win-win situation for both of them. As to how this is paying off? I really don't know because for some reason, it's not discussed much in the CCs. I should have asked about this in my call to IR but forgot. But my feeling is the ROW excitment ANTC alludes to is indeed what NT brings to the table. But I'm only guessing.

As far as supplying the distribution hardware overseas, I agree they are weak on marketing. That's the execution part one always wonders about with an ANTC investment. As you have seen in my upstrem MSO stats, the USA is only one-third of the world's total MSO subs. And as you have seen in my stats, the cable plant is getting a HUGE amount of attention outside the US. Why ANTC doesn't go after this market with a vengance, is really puzzling to me. IMHO, ROW should be a bigger part of their revenues.

"The thread contains a lot of pain, and deep distrust of management. This is not good, but this is fairly typical of a stock dropping as ANTEC has. The CEO is a genius when the stock is up, and an idiot when it is down."

IMHO that was mainly John Egan driven. He is no longer CEO, and really shouldn't be playing a big part in day-day. But I noticed some recent PRs saying he was fulltime still. Probably too many complained about his HUGE pension he wanted. I like Stanzione much better. He really reminds me of TLAB's Mike Brick. But then again, Brick just stepped down.<g>

Anyway Stanzione knows the technology MUCH better than Egan. Egan appeared to be a salesman to me rather than a technically savvy CEO. Whereas Stanzione seems up on the technology, but it's yet to be proven he can handle the execution part of the business. In a high technology business, I just had trouble beliveing someone with a pro-football(I think that is what I read) background was going to make the right decisions. At least you would think Egan would have been superior in execution. But a quick look at the stock price over ten years showed he was a failure(I know some things were beyond his control, but not everything).

"To be bought out you need a strong VOIP strategy."

They have one. As a matter of fact there are two tests going on as we speak. One is IP between the headend and the sub. Then the voice is handed off to a class 5 switch. The other, which I found very interesting, involves IP beyond the CO using, I believe Nortel's VoIP gateway. I could be wrong about that detail.

But the bottom line is they are VERY serious about being able to migrate their circuit-switched installed voice base(which will be huge by the time VoIP is ready for prime time) of HDTs, now called CHTs, to do packet voice. A huge footprint will be available for ANTC to take advantage of.
__________

I have to say, as much as I like their positioning, a quick look at their stock chart shows they stumble often. I think that is what a LOT of investors are fearing this quarter, hence the HUGE haircut. And stumble they may, I just haven't seen any indications they will at this point. Hopefully my first indication isn't going to be a earnings warning PR. -MikeM(From Florida)

PS The CUBE idea was the only idea that was fundamentally sound that I could come up with to take advantage of the Digital TV revolution. Everything else seemed to be way overvalued. If you come up with any fundamentally sound ideas related to TV becoming a universal access device, please let us know.
