Well, it doesn't really have to do with lack of conviction, but with not being proficient in "wonk speak". The sort of things Samuelson complains of are staff problems, mainly. They are supposed to help translate the ins and outs of position papers into easily articulated points. It is not a question of "not thinking", but of not being a technical policy sort of person. I think he will manage. By the way, a recently posted article said the Bush got 1260 on his SATs, if I remember correctly. Since they recentered the test, that would equate to about 1300 or 1360 in current terms, and, of course, they did not permit the use of calculators back then. Anyway, at the time it would have been above the 90th percentile, although I am not sure how far above.......

I like these ones... Though claiming to be his "own man," Gore is essentially promising an extension of the Clinton administration. and Are many of Gore's proposals mainly public-relations gestures, intended to impress the public and satisfy a large Democratic constituency (teachers unions)? The guy certainly has Gore figured out.
