You know that's not what I said. But it's not necessary (or desirable) to benchmark every combination, nor is running benchmarks always the best use of resources. Besides, you know published benchmarks don't tell the whole story, don't you? Have you ever participated in the decision to buy a major system? Did you rely solely (or even heavily?) on standard benchmarks? Or did you test how well it ran your own mix of software, consider the availability of support, etc.? JMHO.
