Joey, the new HP machine is 64 bit, so no Xeon, and Itanium isn't ready yet. PA-RISC, 64 bit. However, a good part of the reason HP is running NT and Linux, besides HP-UX, is to be ready for the IA-64 upgrades down the road. So, what they sell today has to run the OS's that does, or at least the ones HP likes. Apparently they are NT (2000 I hope also), and Linux. Good news about the Linux compatibility. That woudn't have been a slam dunk, to me. Well, maybe 95%, where NT/2000 was 100%, to me.

HP Superdome is IA-64-ready. A multi-OS architecture supports HP-UX1 11i today and, ultimately, is slated to support HP-UX, Windows NT® and Linux simultaneously.

Joey - Re: "and I first assumed their own RISC-based chips. But then, article mentions supporting NT & Linux. Itanium or XEON chips, then??"

Your original assumption is correct.

The HP Superdome uses PA-Risc 8600 CPUs.
