Hi TK:

Closest I got to the VA was going for the residency interview with a friend of mine at the washington (DC) VA. Brand new facility back then. Fort Hamilton is nearby. Many times I have thought about friends of mine who are employed physicians and admiring the fact that they can spend more time practicing instead of having to deal with all of the beaurocratic crap that typifies managed/mangled care today. Recently (this week), I received a rejection of payment from HIP for services rendered even though I had a referral from the pcp, it wasn't an authorization to render care. All I billed for was an IOV (initial office visit for you civilians out there). After all, how can submit an authorization request If I never saw the patient and make an assessment. Problem is that my office ends up argueing with some low level clerical staffer that quote chapter and verse and cannot committ to any upper motor neuron functions without authorization from his superiors. The patient becomes ticked and wonders why he can't be treated. So here we go, playing another round of Simon Says. God, I hate this misguided process.
