Chatsworth, CA -- May 26, 2000 -- MRV Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRVC) today announced the acquisition of Geneva, Switzerland based- CES. CES designs and manufactures solutions for real-time data acquisition systems. Applications of this technology by CES have included real-time fast data acquisition systems for ATM network controllers, nuclear and particle physics and aeronautical flight test equipment. Customers include Airbus Industries, Aerospatiale, CERN, Daimler Benz, Lucent Technologies and Nortel Networks. Francois-Henri Worm, founder and head of CES, commented: "We have applied real-time data acquisition methods on particle physics and this has included our contribution to the discovery at the CERN of the Z-Zero, the long-sought missing particle of matter. Our systems are part of a new experiment that will generate data at a rate equal to each person on earth simultaneously placing ten phone calls. We have applied the same principles to achieve packet by packet processing of IP-based transactions in wireless broadband networks.” Worm commented further: “By combining with a much larger organization, we now offer our customers expanded coverage in the US, as well as world class global manufacturing and support.” Philippe Szwarc, who will head iTouch, commented on the acquisition: "CES's solutions distribute processing power as close as possible to actual events thereby capturing broadband subscribers information, transaction by transaction. This technology enhances service providers' ability to quickly and profitably market and bill new “value-added services”. The intention behind the establishment of iTouch Communications, which combines the complementary strengths of MRV’s routing, WAN and IP expertise with that of CES’s, is to allow for faster development of more feature rich high-speed data acquisition and management systems. iTouch Communications will be based in Geneva, Switzerland and Littleton, Massachusetts. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. For more information on CES, please visit www.ces.ch.
